Laser
A laser (from the acronym Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation) is a device which uses a quantum mechanical effect, the induced or stimulated emission, to generate a beam of coherent light from a suitable medium controlling the size, purity and shape.
The lasers we use in medicine are light sources with certain characteristics. It is a monochromatic, coherent, unidirectional and high brilliance, these features distinguish it from conventional light.
The purpose of using these light sources is to interact with the tissue to achieve the desired effect. This interaction consists of transmiting heat to the tissue, the photothermal effect.
